Call to make students science-minded

RAJSHAHI, Mar 29 (BSS): Speakers at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day science and information and communication technology (ICT) fair here Sunday called for making the students and others science-minded for building a technology and knowledge-based nation. Terming science and ICT as reality they mentioned that substantial promotion of science-based education has become indispensable for enriching the nation with skilled manpower. They said the schoolteachers and other concerned have a vital role to play in this regard. District administration organised the fair at Rajshahi Teachers Training College in observance of the 32nd National Science, Information and Communication Technology Week- 2011. Main thrust of the fair is to disseminate the newly innovated scientific and ICT knowledge and low and no cost scientific instruments among the students and the public in general. "Digital Bangladesh for All: Technology is only the way of progress" is the slogan of the fair. Deputy Commissioner Dilwar Bakth addressed the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest while Prof Sayeda Khanom as special guest with Principal of Rajshahi Teachers Training College Prof Shirin Sultana in the chair. Associate Professor Abdus Samad Mondal of the college, in his address of welcome, gave a brief resume of the fair and its ultimate goals. Speakers said the present government is pledged bound for wide-ranging promotion of science and technology-based education for building digital Bangladesh. They called upon the teachers to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for successful implementation of the government effort. Besides, they said the students are the future citizens so they should be brought up with special care and nursing to make them competent to lead the nation competently.
