Call to modernise Chittagong port

CHITTAGONG, Dec 21: Greater Chittagong Development Action Committee (GCDAC) called for immediate implementation of the 'development package' of Chittagong, which was undertaken by the advisery council of the interim government.
The demand was raised at a press conference held at Chittagong Press Club Saturday. GCDAC Secretary General Mamtaz Uddin Chowdhury presided over the meeting.
With a view to achieving the target of 'global standard port and city', a development package was chalked out worth Tk.30 billion by the advisery council at a meeting held in Chittagong recently with the Chief Adviser in the chair.
The development package includes full fledged implementation of the commercial capital, modernisation of Chittagong Port and construction of deep seaport in Chittagong, declaring 4 old divisions including Chittagong as separate provinces, establishment of High Court's Division in Chittagong, expediting Karnaphuli Gas Transmission Company formation process, solving power, water and gas related crisis including water lagging and, finally, chalking out short and long term projects for saving the river Karnaphuli and Chittagong Port from all odds.
