Call to prevent child marriage across the country

MOULVIBAZAR, Aug 5 (UNB): Speakers at an opinion exchange meeting here Saturday urged Imams of mosques and marriage registrars (Kazis) to come forward for preventing child marriage in the country.
They called upon the Imams to deliver speeches in mosques about the dangers and ill effects of child marriage at the Jum'a prayers across the country and asked the Kazis to examine the birth registration certificates to stop child marriage.
The meeting was held at Pourshava auditorium in the town, organized by Bangla-desh Mahila Ainjibi Samity with the assistance of British High Commission.
Deputy Commissioner M Alkama Siddiqi attended the meeting as chief guest while Additional Police Superinten-dent Motiur Rahman was present as special guest.
Member of executive council of Mahila Ainjibi Samity Hasina Rashid presided over the meeting.
It was addressed, among others, by district Islamic Foundation deputy director Abul Kashem Majumdar, district Social Welfare deputy director Manjur-ul-Alam, Babul Chowdhury of British High Commission, Imam Samity president M Abdul Huq and Kazi Samity general secretary Badrul Hossain.
