Call to protect biodiversity for ecological balance

Speakers at a roundtable in the city Tuesday underlined the need for protecting country's biodiversity for ecological balance as well as attracting tourists, reports BSS.

Special programmes have to be taken for preserving country's natural beauty and changing people's mindset to develop tourism industry, they said.

Bangladesh Wonders Promotion Association organised the roundtable in the CIRDAP auditorium on what steps should be taken immediately for Bangladesh to win the competition of World's Seven Wonders Selection.

Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Jamil addressed the discussion as the chief guest.

Former adviser of the caretaker government Major General (retd) Ruhul Alam Chowdhury chaired the function while TIB Chairman Prof Muzaffer Ahmad, Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Shafique Alam Mehedi, General Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Omar Faruque and President of REHAB Engineer Tanvirul Huq Probal, among others, spoke.

Julius Chowdhury, President of Bangladesh Wonders Promotion Association, presented the keynote paper.

Urging all to send more votes through SMS for Cox's Bazar to be adjudged one of the seven natural wonders, Mahbub Jamil said efforts should be made from the government and private levels for winning the competition.
