Call to protect N-region from desertification

RAJSHAHI, Nov 5 (BSS): Speakers at a climate change awareness programme urged the developed countries to stop playing unconventional acts in the current climate negotiations and to support the stand of most vulnerable countries.
They also laid emphasis on the conscious people to protect the country's northwestern region from desertification.
About 200 people under the banner of "Communication for Social Change in Bangladesh (CSCB)", a voluntary organisation staged a human chain in front of T-band (Symbol of Rajshahi) on the waterless river Padma in Rajshahi Wednesday to press home their demands.
They also arranged a candle lighting programme and held a discussion at the same venue.
They urged all developing and developed countries to reach an agreement with legal support at COP-15 in Copenhagen .
The speakers demanded compensation from the developed countries that have created a harmful situation on impact of climate change.
Prof Dulal Chandra Bishwas of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Rajshahi University and chairman of the CSCB said, "The developing countries need all the support they can get, and it is unfortunate to have a country among their position that is weakening their condition".
