Call to raise compensation to workers maimed in workplace accidents

Speakers at a seminar have criticised the government for fixing the maximum compensation fixed by for a dead worker and injured ome – Tk 0.1 million (100,000) and Tk 0.125m (1,25,000) respectively. The demanded that the government take effective steps for the rehabilitation of the workers maimed in various workplace accidents. Addressing the seminar, titled ‘Socio-economic Status of Workplace Serious Injuries’, held in the city, they also noted that different surveys showed most of the maimed survivors of the workplace accidents are facing various socio-economic hardship. They said compensation fixed by the government for the dead and injured workers is ‘inhuman and insulting’ to the workers and their families, according to a news agency.
