Call to ratify Maritime Labour Convention

Seafarers have urged the government to ratify Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 to help them enjoy the rights they are entitled in the highly risky job.
The seafarers made the appeal while speaking at a seminar organised by Nautical Institute, Dhaka branch in the city recently.
President of the branch AKM Shafiqullah presided over the seminar, while Director General of the Department of Shipping Bazlur Rahman and Secretary of the Institute Ghulam Hussain addressed it.
The speakers observed that the country's existing law and Bangladesh Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1983 were enacted with no conflict with the convention.
GM Quadrey and Zaki Ahmad presented papers on seafarer's identity and Maritime Labour Convention respectively at the seminar.
