NILPHAMARI, Feb 3 : The government initiative to create overseas employment opportunity for the Monga-hit poor of the country's northern region proved to be a complete failure.
In 2009, the government assigned a quota to send 18000 poor people from the Monga-hit region comprising greater Rangpur to overseas countries with job.
But it was regrettable that only a few people were sent abroad with job.
Sources said Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) and Palli Karmo Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on May 18, 2008 under which PKSF would provide loans to poor youths of the Monga-hit region consisting of greater Rangpur for overseas employment.
It was also resolved that the recruiting agents would send 4.0 per cent of poor people from the region out of their total demand and BMET would provide necessary training to them.
The venture had failed as the recruiting agents could not agree on the amount set as per head expatriate expenditure by the government.
In the situation, people of the region sought immediate government action for restoration of the overseas job opportunity.
