Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity demanded an end to plunder, anarchy and harassment of passengers in the name of collecting extra fare by bus owners, drivers and helpers, reports UNB.
The call was made at a human chain and rally in front of the National Press Club in the city Tuesday.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity organised the programme, which was presided over by its Vice-president M Khairul Amin.
Secretary general of the organisation Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, finance secretary Monirul Haque Monir and organising secretary Anwar Hossain Rumi, among others, spoke at the rally.
The speakers expressed their dissatisfaction over not realising fare in line with the government fixed rate. They called for ensuring the collection of fare as per the government fixed rate.
They called for taking steps aimed at improving service and halting plying of buses without route permit, turning local bus direct and eradicating traffic jam.
A section of dishonest transport workers have been engaged in plundering people's money as the government did not refix the fare immediately after or before hiking the fuel price, they said, demanding the intervention of the Prime Minister for saving the country's passengers from the plunderers.
