Call to utilise talents of expatriate scholars

The first ever Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) conference began in the city Thursday with a call for utilising the talents of thousands of Bangladeshi scholars residing throughout the world, reports BSS.
Speakers at the inaugural session called upon the Bangladeshi expatriates to build a common platform for them as they could establish a linkage between them and the people of the country so that they contribute their expertise in the development process.
About 800 distinguished Bangladeshis from 35 countries are taking part in the three-day conference organised by the Scholars Bangladesh at a local hotel.
Eminent lawyer and constitution expert Kamal Hossain, Senator Hansen Clarke of Michigan State, eminent economist Wahiduddin Mahmud, renowned writer Zafar Iqbal, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University SMA Faiz, VC of North South University Hafiz GA Siddiqui, VC of Independent University Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury, former adviser of the caretaker government Rokya Afzal Rahman and economist Atiur Rahman spoke at the inaugural session as the special guests while VC of BRAC University Jamilur Reza Chowdhury chaired the session.
Chief executive of Scholars Bangladesh Dilara Afroz Khan moderated the session while representatives from Saudi Arabia, UK, USA, Australia and Japan spoke in it.
Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed will attend the conference on the concluding day as the chief guest.
