Campaign to recover illegal arms to free country from terrorism launched

NARAYANGANJ, Sept 24 (BSS): The government has launched a vigorous campaign to recover illegal arms and ammunition to free the country from terrorism.
State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku Thursday said this while visiting different Puja mandops on the Shasthi, the first day of the five-day Durga Puja festival, beginning in the town on the day.
Illegal arms were smuggled into the country during the past four-party alliance government, the state minister said.
Durga Puja festival is being celebrated across the country two days after the celebration of holy Eid-ul-Fitr in a peaceful atmosphere, he said.
Members of the law enforcing agencies have been deployed to maintain peace and check untoward incidents during the festival, he added.
The state minister visited a number of Puja mandops including those at Chashara Ram Krishna Mission, Amlapara, Ukilpara and Netaiganj.
During the visit, Tuku also exchanged greetings with the members of the Hindu community.
IGP Nur Muhammad, DG of RAB Hasan Mahmud Khondaker, DIG of Dhaka Range Mukhlesur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Shamsur Rahman, Narayanganj municipality Mayor Dr Selina Hyat Ivy and leaders of Narayanganj unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad were present on the occasion.
