Md. Mahbubur Rahman Bulbul
BANGLADESH has different types of tradition and rich historical background. Bangladesh achieved its historical independence through nine-month struggle in 1971. The students of Bangladesh made a huge contribution in the liberation war of 1971. They played a vital role from 1948 to 1990. In this period, they achieved special position in our national politics. Every year our nation remembers our historical national days as language movement in 1952, education movement in 1962, mass-movement in 1969, independence war in 1971 and lastly anti dictatorship and army administrative role in 1990. Huge number of energetic and talented students sacrificed their valuable lives for this nation in every national political movement. So, the whole nation always respect them and their principles. They continued their regular studies and were free from corruption and terrorism. For this reason, many students leaders became member of parliament, ministers, national leaders, journalist, poets and others important national personalities in our country. But in the present situation, Bangladeshi student politics has deviated away from its tradition and glorious historical roots.
Now-a-days many leaders of student politics are seen involved in terrorism, black money, tender business, etc. They are directly involved with our dirty national politics and they only understand their own and party's interest. So, majority of the people dislike them and totally avoid their dirty politics devoid of interest of the students. Many of them are addicted to all kinds of drugs. After passing last two years of Bangladesh care-taker government activities, again political violence has started in most of the colleges and university campuses. Our political leaders and their political attitude are responsible for this trouble. Our talented students are being used by the political leaders. They are destroying their most valuable future with this stupid politics. Most of the public universities are affected by this political violence of students very seriously. For that reason, all national political parties are implementing their political activities openly in the campuses and they are directly using our talented and innocent students for their own political interests.
Most of the private universities are playing a vital role to build-up their students as honest, dedicated, very talented and responsible persons in their personal and professional life. All private universities discourage present student politics and do not allow any political activity in their own campus area. It is declared as vital part of their rules and regulations. As a result, most of the guardians in our country are interested in admission in private universities.
There are a good number of private universities that are giving teaching service among their admitted regular students very honestly and sincerely. ASA University of Bangladesh (ASAUB), BRAC University, North-South University, East-West University, Northern University and Daffodil University are to name a few.
The students of ASAUB, for example, do not believe in national dirty politics. Always they are busy with their studies and others social activities. Especially, during the devastating cyclone, SIDR, ASAUB came forward to assist the helpless poor people. The students donated money, clothes, food and other essentials among the affected people.
It is high time to take proper decisions by the government and all concerned to avoid dirty student politics in Bangladesh.
