Can the government reconsider the upazila law?

Tuesday, 21 April 2009

THE last caretaker government gave the long-awaited law for upazila polls. Upazila (sub-district) are administrative units meant only for promoting local development and governance. The upazila chairmen need the powers for which they were elected.
But recently the upazila chairmen's powers were cut under the Upazila Act. The angry upazila chairmen declared that they would not allow the MPs to go to their constituencies unless the law is amended.
I think they need the power they were earlier given. Can the government re-consider the issue?
