Monday, 22 November 2010

Canada, one of the top destinations of migration for Bangladeshi people, has agreed to hire farm labours for the first time for its Saskatchewan province, Labour and Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said Sunday, reports UNB.
Top government officials of Saskatchewan province will visit Bangladesh in January next to negotiate further in this connection and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed following the negotiation, he told reporters at the VIP Lounge of Shahjalal International Airport upon his arrival from Mexico.
The minister led the Bangladesh delegation to Mexico to attend the conference of `Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD)' that began on November 8. He also visited Canada during the trip.
He informed the newsmen that Bangladesh and Canada would jointly set up a training centre here soon to train up the willing workers so that they can adjust them while working in the North American country in adverse climate.
"They verbally agreed to set up training centre here. A concrete decision will come through negotiation when Canadian officials will visit Bangladesh in January," he said.
Replying to a question, Mosharraf said initially, 700 agricultural workers would be sent to Canada for seven months and each of the workers would be paid at least Tk 700 per hour. "But they need huge number of workers there."
He said that during the trip to Mexico and Canada, the Bangladesh delegation had a number of bilateral talks with top priority given on ensuring human rights for the workers and the discussions were fruitful.
