Canadian envoy meets Ali Riaz

High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh Ajit Singh on Wednesday met Vice-Chair of the National Consensus Commission (NCC) Prof Ali Riaz and discussed the progress of NCC's work.
Prof Riaz briefed the delegation on the dialogues with the political parties about building consensus and drafting the National Charter.
He welcomed Canada's interest and emphasised the importance of international partnerships in strengthening democratic institutions.
Mr Singh was accompanied by Marcus Davies, political counsellor at the Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh, and Stephen Weaver, counsellor and head of cooperation.
During the meeting, the Canadian delegation expressed strong support for the NCC's objectives.
They commended the efforts being made to promote inclusive dialogues and national consensus, as well as assured continued cooperation and assistance from the government of Canada.
