Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Saturday that following the demarcation of Jirani, Manda, Shyampur and Kalungar canals in the capital, their recovery drives will start in August.
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) took over the canals from Dhaka WASA which plays a vital role, he added.
"Now, we're going to start the final demarcation and de-encroachment process of these four canals under a project as per all relevant laws."
He came up with the announcement while addressing a dialogue styled as 'Role of canals recovery in alleviating Dhaka's water-logging and creating a beautiful atmosphere'.

The Dhaka Utility Reporters Association (DURA) organised the event at the conference room of Bangladesh Institute of Planners or BIP in the Bangla Motor area of the capital.
The mayor said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved a project for improving these four canals.
"After getting the canals, since January 2021 we started the initial de-encroachment work. We observed that a part of Shyampur canal was supposed to be 100-feet wide, whereas we found a drain-like narrow section of only eight-feet width," he said.
He said all related laws and land mapping as per CS, RS, SA and Detailed Area Plan will be followed while recovering the canals.
"We are set to start the drive in a massive way. There remain pressures and barriers in such process," he said and expected support from the media, civil society, urban planners and Dhaka residents to deal with that pressure.
National Press Club general secretary Shyamol Dutta attended the programme as special guest while BIP President Dr Adil Mohammed Khan presented a keynote paper.
DURA President Obaidur Masum chaired the programme while its General Secretary Shahjahan Mollah moderated the discussion.
