Candidate boycotts poll in Lakshmipur
Monday, 31 March 2014
A rebel chairman candidate contesting without the Awami League’s endorsement boycotted polls to the Sadar Upazila (UZ) Parishad in Lakshmipur district, alleging irregularities during voting on Monday. Mohiuddin Bakul announced his decision at a press conference in his house two hours after polling began at 8am today. He alleged his polling agents had been driven out of the polling centre. Bakul demanded re-polling in Sadar UZ. He alleged law enforcers and miscreants laid a siege to his house the night before the balloting, threatening dire consequences if he ventured out before the results were out, according to a news agency.
