Candidates urged to abide by electoral code of conducts properly

GAIBANDHA, May 25 (BSS): Speakers at a function Tuesday urged the candidates to abide by the electoral code of conducts in Union Parishad (UP) election properly to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the pre and post election period.
"The candidates may face different types of complexities including fine and conviction by the courts on charge of violating the electoral code of conduct in his respective election areas side by side with canceling his or her candidature", they said.
They made the comments while addressing a meeting organised by Sadar Upazila administration on electoral code of conduct in forthcoming UP election at the auditorium of Upazila Parishad in the morning.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Shahidul Islam addressed the meeting as the chief guest and Superintendent of Police Bashudeb Banik and Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdur Rashid Sarker were present as the special guests.
With UNO Ashib Ahsan in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Upazila election officer (UEO) Bulbul Ahmed and Upazila social services officer and returning officer Golam Faruque.
In the meeting, the UEO said two mobile courts led by judicial and executive magistrates will have on patrolling in all the 13 unions of the Upazila during the 10-day pre and 2-day post election period.
The magistrates can hand down instant judgment against the candidates including their workers if any irregularities on electoral code of conducts are found by the courts, he added.
All the chairmen candidates, reserved female member candidates and general member candidates who are contesting in the UP election under the Upazila participated in the meeting.
The election to Mollarchar, Kamarjani, Gidari, Ghagoa, Malibari, Laxmipur and Kholahati Unions will be held in first phase on June 11 and the election to Kuptala, Sahapara, Ballamjhar, Ramchandrapur, Badiakhali and Boali Unions in second phase on June 14, official sources said.
Wife killed by husband
Another message from UNB adds: A man allegedly slaughtered his wife for dowry at Char Ramdaskura village in Sundarganj Upazila Wednesday early hours.
The deceased was identified as Shefali Begum, wife of Saju Miah of the village.
Police said Saju married Shefali of the village seven months back. Her parents promised to give Saju Tk 80,000 as dowry. But failing to get the money from her parents as per commitment after the marriage Saju used to torture Shefali.
On the fateful night, he picked up a quarrel with her over the issue and at one stage slaughtered her with the help of his family members.
Locals informed the police early in the morning who recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed. Police arrested Saju.
