Candy factory sealed off

A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) sealed off a milk candy factory at Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital on Wednesday on charge of candies with adulterated ingredients and low quality milk. The mobile court also fined four of its employees, including the manager, Tk 0.1 million each, in default, to suffer three months simple jail. The mobile court of Rab-10, led by Rab Headquarters executive magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha, conducted a drive at ‘Yoko Food and Agro Ltd’ at Godarbagh in Keraniganj in between 12pm and 3pm. When contacted, magistrate Anwar Pasha said although the six-storey factory building is equipped with modern equipment, it was found after inspection that candies are being made with low quality materials. Very poor quality milk powder, kept in sacks, is being used for making chocolates and lozenges to reduce cost, according to a news agency.
