Cap makers in Naogaon passing busy time to meet Eid demand

NAOGAON, June 02: Cap makers in Mohadevpur upazila of the district are passing busy time from morning till late night to meet the demand for this product ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Caps produced in the upazila are being exported to different countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Kuwait and Qatar as well as different parts of the country.
Sources said around 10,000 people mostly women at Shibrampur, Ramchandrapur, Madhuban, Khajur, Beel Mohammadpur, Chandash, Ramraypur, Chakkandarpur, Shibganj, Bagdob and Shibpur villages under Mohadevpur upazila are engaged in the cap making profession.
Male members of the families usually collect yarn, receive order of buyers from home and abroad and supervise the cap making process while the female members knit the caps.
It needs Tk 25 to Tk 250 to make a cap while per piece of the product is being sold at up to Tk 500 depending on quality, the sources added.
The cap makers, however, alleged that they are facing some difficulties centring the high price of yarn and clothes and unavailability of bank loans on easy terms.
Deputy Commissioner (DC), Naogaon, Md Mizanur Rahman stated the cap makers of the district will be provided with necessary assistance from the government to make them self-reliant through the cottage industry.
