Capital market hits 8-month low

Tuesday, 20 May 2014

Transactions in Bangladesh’s capital market have declined to eight-month low after witnessing some stability at the beginning of the year, just after the general elections. Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday recorded lowest ever transactions in last eight months. Analysts viewed this as a reflection of investors’ lack of confidence on the market. DSE traded shares of Tk 1.97 billion on Tuesday. Earlier, the lowest transaction was recorded on October 22, 2013 when only about Tk 1.89 billion was traded. Managing Director of the IDLC Investments Limited Mohammad Moniruzzaman attributed this slump, a month before the presentation of budget by the new government, to lack of growth in the economy. He told bdnews24.com that investors as such have not lost confidence on capital market.
