Capital punishment of Mujib killers needed to establish rule of law: PM

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said capital punishment of the killers of Bangabandhu and his family members including child Russel was important to establish rule of law in the country, reports UNB.
She stated this at a function marking the 47th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of father of the nation Bangbandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu-Kishore Parishad organized the function at Bangbandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
Hasina said: "By punishing the killers, we want to establish that one has to face punishment if one commits any injustice."
She said there were some people who had supported the killers and urged the children to learn to hate the accomplices of the killers.
The PM said that through the 15th amendment to the constitution, the government made it clear that there is no scope for killing and grabbing the state power illegally.
She said that her government wanted to ensure education for all children. "We've to make sure that no child in the country is deprived of education, as the children are the future of the country."
She narrated various steps taken by her government for the welfare of education and students in the country.
Hasina recalled some memories related with Sheikh Russell and said that if he was alive he would have been a grown up man by now.
Chaired by Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu-Kishore Parishad president Rakibur Rahman, the function was also addressed by State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, economist Dr Abul Barkat and Parishad secretary general Mahmud-Us-Samad, MP.
Later, the PM distributed prizes among the children who won in the art and music competition. She also witnessed the cultural programme presented by the children.
