Capturing radio station part of killers' intrigue: state counsel
Friday, 6 November 2009
Anisul Haque, chief counsel for the state in the appeal hearing on Bangabandhu murder case, in his last day's submission Thursday stated that capturing the radio station after operation in Bangabandhu Bhaban is an integral part of the conspiracy of the killers, reports BSS.
"The conspirators of August 15, 1975 captured the radio station so that vice president or prime minister cannot address the countrymen to build resistance against the killers of Bangabandhu," the state counsel argued.
Referring to the contention of the appellants' counsels that it was a mutiny to oust or change the government, Anisul Haque said it was a conspiracy to overthrow the government and capture the state power by murdering the President of the country.
"The act of the conspirators has clearly established that their objective was to kill Bangabandhu, his family members and his relatives and therefore it could take place without any question, provocation or resistance," the state counsel submitted.
"Several witnesses in their depositions as well as cross examinations established the facts of the incidents. The trial court after examining and evaluating their witnesses awarded the capital punishment and later the High Court upheld the lower court's decision," he claimed.
