Some miscreants have killed the driver of a microbus, injured his assistant and fled to Narsingdi from Gazipur with the vehicle. Police have recovered the body of microbus driver Md Parvez, 18, in Narsingdi district. The microbus, which was stolen in Gazipur district, has been recovered while a suspected carjacker – ‘Rafiq’, 26, of Tangail – detained. Slain microbus driver Parvez hailed from Gazipur. The microbus’s owner Md Nuruzzaman said, 6 men rented the microbus on Friday afternoon to go to Narsingdi from Gazipur. Later, around 9:30pm, they tied up Parvez and his assistant Suruj round the neck with ropes. ‘At one stage Suruj lost consciousness. Taking him to be dead, the miscreants dumped him on the side of the road and fled in the vehicle. When Suruj recovered consciousness 2 hours later, he informed local police and me,’ said Nuruzzaman. After a long search, police found Parvez’s body in a pond beside the Narsingdi-Ghorasal route on Saturday morning, he said. Police said, Rafiq was involved in the theft. As he travelled regularly along the area, Suruj was familiar with Rafiq. His tip off led to Rafiq’s arrest and the recovery of the microbus, according to a news agency.
