Car lifting comes down as detective police intensify drives

Sunday, 1 July 2007

Incidents of car lifting came down as two special teams of the Detective Branch launched drives against the car-lifting from March 22, reports UNB.
So far 93 car lifting incidents were recorded in police stations in the capital since March 22, Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Masudur Rahman told the news agency.
"The incident of car lifting came down to one a day on an average since the special teams for prevention of car lifting started their drives, whereas the figure was three to four in the past," ADC Masud said.
The special teams, consisting of 22 members, including one ADC, two ACs and two Inspectors, so far arrested 56 alleged car lifters and recovered 35 vehicles, including private cars and microbuses.
At least 10 organised gangs were active in stealing vehicles in the capital. Each gang consists of five to six persons and most of them have expertise in engines, vehicles parts and driving, Masud said.
