Car of MP Haji Selim vandalised

Sunday, 29 June 2014

Students of Jagannath University (JnU) have vandalised a car of Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim’s protocol.
The incident took place in presence of the independent lawmaker around 4:30pm Sunday at Naya Bazar intersection in Old Dhaka, police said. Selim confirmed bdnews24.com of the development, but said, “There’s no need to run a report on this.”
Kotwali Police Station Sub-Inspector Mahmud said the students damaged the MP’s protocol car, but police after a while took control of the situation.
Witnesses said a spat between students on the university’s Savar-bound bus ‘Bongshi’ and the car’s driver led to the vandalism.
They said the driver of the white microbus, which came from the opposite direction and escorted Selim’s car, did not want to back up and clear the path for the bus. That led the agitated students to go berserk.
JnU students had demonstrated for a month earlier this year for the ‘recovery’ of Tibet Hall situated in GL Partho Lane in Patuatuli’s Wiseghat area, which, they alleged, has been occupied by Haji Selim since 2000.
