Cargo ship sinks in Meghna: 1 missing

A cargo ship sank with 160 tonnes of salt in Meghna River in Komolnagar Upazila in Lakshmipur district on Friday. Naval police and locals said the cargo vessel ‘MV Ziron’, with nine crew and 160 tonnes salt, was going to Barisal from Chittagong port area. The ship sank as it hit a lighterage (lighter vessel) coming from the opposite direction in Motirhat area under Komolnagar Upazila. Of the crew members, eight were rescued by local fishermen and one remained untraced. Additional police super of Dhaka Naval Police Khondaker Mohammad Shamim Hossain confirmed the incident. A campaign was launched by Naval Police to rescue the missing crew Nurul Hoque, according to a news agency.
