PETALING JAYA, Oct 10 (AP): Cynthia Carroll, the first female and non-South African to head British mining company Anglo American, is the most powerful corporate woman in the world, according to a recent report on the 50 most powerful women by Fortune magazine.
Cheung Yan: Hired in March to carry out the restructuring of the world's largest mining company, the 50-year-old American geologist has bought stakes in an iron ore mine in Brazil and two copper projects in Peru and Alaska.
Marjorie Scardino, the third most powerful woman, heads Pearson Plc that recorded sales increase of 8 per cent to nearly US$8bil last year. Further buoying her position is Pearson's cash cow, the education arm, which is booming as new acquisition Harcourt Inc strengthens the company's international presence.
Ho Ching: She has also lifted Temasek's assets above US$100bil, mostly via bank buys in China, Britain and Indonesia.
