Carrot farming gaining popularity among Rangpur Char people

RANGPUR, Jan 18: Farmers of the district are making good profit from carrot farming this season.
A good number of farmers who are involved in carrot cultivation expressed their satisfaction over the total output of the winter delicacy..
The soil of different areas of the region is suitable for carrot cultivation. Harvesting of the crop began from Bengali month of Poush in the region and it is gaining momentum during this month of Magh, sources added.
Visiting some areas it was found that the farmers are passing busy time harvesting their produce with much enthusiasm.
Ashraful, a carrot grower of village Khansama in Kawnia upazila said he has cultivated the crop on 35 decimals of land this season. He has already earned Tk 10,000 by selling his produce and is hopeful of getting more dividends during the rest of the season.
Rabiul, another carrot grower of Nabdiganj village in Pirgachha upazila told the FE that he has brought 40 decimals of land under the cultivation of the crop this season. He has earned Tk 12,000 so far from the sale of the produce.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official sources said, the cultivation of the crop is gradually gaining much popularity in the region including char areas as the farmers are getting good profit through its cultivation.
DAE is also providing necessary helps and agri-inputs to the growers to enhance its farming, sources added.
