CAs can play role in financial transparency: President

President Iajuddin Ahmed Wednesday said that country's chartered accountants (CAs) could play a vital role in bringing financial transparency and accountability in both private and public sectors, reports BSS.
"I believe a CA with his professional skill and expertise can render services to the nation in strengthening discipline in the financial matters," he said.
The President made the remark while addressing the 18th convocation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at Bangladesh- China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.
He said the financial statements that are prepared by the CAs make immense contributions to preparing budgetary documents and help in decision making process.
"I am happy to know that the ICAB is dedicated to impart quality and time- worthy education to the CA students with a view to creating responsible accountancy profession in Bangladesh," Iajuddin said.
It is a matter of satisfaction that the ICAB had been playing a pivotal role in making accountancy in the country professional since its inception in 1973, he added.
Congratulating the new CAs the President urged them to keep up the confidence and trust of the people bestowed upon them and use their professional expertise keeping up the national interest.
A total of 53 students were awarded certificates as qualified CAs while nine of them received certificates from the President for their brilliant results.
President of ICAB Humayun Kabir gave the address of welcome while Vice-chancellor of North South University Prof Hafiz GA Siddiqi delivered the convocation speech.
Prof Siddiqi said ICAB has been pursuing quality assurance in the preparation and audit of financial statements to ensure transparency and compliance with standards and codes.
