President Zillur Rahman Sunday urged chartered accountants (CAs) to work remaining above all greed and pressure for ensuring financial transparency in both the public and private sectors, reports BSS.
"Give top priority to your patriotism, honesty and sincerity during discharging your duties," he said while speaking at the 19th convocation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
The President expressed his belief that the chartered accountants would play significant role in checking misuse of public money through ensuring accountability and establishing financial discipline in all spheres.
Zillur Rahman said that chartered accountancy was a responsible profession as income, expenses, liability and assets of an organisation are reflected in the report of the accountants.
"So it's an expectation of all that you will show your utmost honesty and sincerity alongside professionalism in preparing the financial report of an organisation," he said.
Noting that transparency and accountability are must for maintaining financial administration and economic management, President Rahman also said it's not possible to establish good governance and welfare of people without ensuring economic discipline.
The President said that the present government was firmly committed to establish good governance and ensure financial discipline in government accounts.
The national budget of the country is increasing day by day and volume of investment in the corporate sector is also going high, he said adding in this context, the country needs a large number of professional chartered accountants.
Congratulating the new accountants, the President said: "in your professional life, wherever do you go, don't forget the people of this country and always remember that you came to this stage with the support of your country's hardworking people."
During the convocation, a total of 232 accountants received ACA (associate chartered accountant) certificates while Suraiya Jannat Khan received gold medal from the President for her outstanding academic results.
Vice Chancellor of North South University Dr Hafiz GA Siddique spoke as the convocation speaker while ICAB President Pervin Mahmud gave the welcome speech. ICAB Vice President M Abdus Slam also spoke on the occasion.
