Case filed against DB officials for attempted murder

Two officials from the detective branch of the police has been accused of attempted murder and extortion in a case filed at the Dhaka magistrate's court, reports bdnews24.com.
Md Zahurul Haque Babul, a businessman from the capital's Sabujbagh area, lodged the complaint with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court of Shahadat Hossain Sunday.
Dhaka Metropolitan assistant commissioner of police, Matiur Rahman and inspector Md Kibria were named as defendants along with four other unidentified people.
The statement filed with the court said that on May 18 the accused persons took Babul from the Zahir Dairy Farm office at the ground floor of his residence and took him to a field in Azimpur.
They demanded Tk 2.0 million (20 lakh) from him and threatened to kill him if they did not receive it, the statement added.
Babul said that he was tortured at the field and was freed only after he paid them Tk 100,000.
He also complained that the Sabujbagh police were apprehensive when he wanted to file a case in this connection.
