Case filed against former state minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury

DINAJPUR, August 17 (UNB): A case has been filed at Bochaganj Police Station against Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, the former MP of Dinajpur-2 constituency and ex-State Minister for Shipping, along with 24 leaders and activists, and 75 unnamed accused related to an attack on students protesting against discrimination.
In connection with this case, the Awami League's Upazila Chairman, Afshar Ali, was arrested and sent to jail with a remand petition through the court on Saturday.
Earlier today, Faisal Mostak, the Upazila Coordinator, filed a case for involvement in an attack on a students' protest on July 18.
In a separate incident, Upazila Chairman Afshar Ali attempted to file a case against students at Bochaganj Police Station on August 16, accusing them of attacking his house and business establishment.
Upon hearing the news, students surrounded the police station, demanding his arrest and resignation from the chairman's position. The situation was defused with the intervention of the army, after which Afshar Ali announced his resignation.
Abu Bakkar Siddique Russel, Officer-in-Charge of Bochaganj Police Station, confirmed that the Upazila Chairman was arrested in connection with the student case and was sent to jail with a remand application on Saturday.
