Judgment on 13th amendment

Case filed against Justice Khairul Haque for verdict tempering

FE REPORT | Monday, 19 August 2024

A case has been filed with the Shahabagh Police Station in Dhaka against former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque for corruptly and maliciously rendering an illegal judgment.
Muhammad Muzahidul Islam, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the case on Sunday.
In the case statement, Mr Islam said the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court delivered its short judgment on the 13th amendment of the Constitution on May 10, 2011. In the judgment, the apex court ruled that the election of the Tenth and Eleventh Parliament may be held under the provisions of the Thirteenth Amendment of the Constitution.
The parliament, however, is at liberty to bring necessary amendments, excluding the provisions of making the former Chief Justices of Bangladesh or the judges of the Appellate Division as the head of the Non-Party Caretaker Government.
