Cases soar 7.51pc in week
Covid death tally up to 5,660, caseload 3,88,569

After weeks of continuous fall in the number of Covid-19 confirmed cases, the country witnessed a sharp rise in infections last week that ended on October 17.
According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of infections rose by 7.51 per cent than that of the previous week, which expired on October 10.
In the 41st epidemiological week (from October 4 to October 10) since detection of the first coronavirus case in the country on March 08, some 9,508 people tested positive from 81,723 samples tested during the seven days.
In that week, some 11,296 people got cured from the deadly viral disease, while 175 others embraced death.
In the following or 42nd epidemiological week (starting from October 11), the number of infections increased to 10,222 from 90,174 tested samples.
Meanwhile, as high as 1,274 people tested Covid-19 positive, while 14 others died of the respiratory disease caused by the new virus in the last 24 hours until Sunday morning.
The DGHS, on Sunday's health bulletin on coronavirus, said a total of 11,866 samples were tested across the country since Saturday noon.
Of the tests, some 1,274 samples were found Covid-19 positive along with 14 more deaths recorded across the country during the period, it mentioned.
"With these numbers, the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 3,88,569 and 5,660 respectively," noted the bulletin, signed by the DGHS additional director general (administration).
With the latest figures, the rates of infections and deaths now stand at 17.96 per cent and 1.46 per cent respectively.
Of the total deaths, 51.15 per cent were recorded in Dhaka division, followed by Chattogram (20.04 per cent), Khulna (8.07 per cent), Rajshahi (6.40 per cent), Rangpur (4.54 per cent), Sylhet (4.24 per cent), Barishal (3.46 per cent), and Mymensingh (2.10 per cent).
At the same time, the DGHS data also mentioned that 1,674 patients recovered, taking the entire tally of recovery to 3,03,972.
Globally, over 40.0 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus, and 11,15,600 have died until Sunday 5:45 pm, according to Worldometer info.
