Cash-crunch hits B'baria pottery business

BRAHMANBARIA, Oct 22: Pottery business in the district is seriously affected as the potters here are facing dearth of capital to run their business, sources said.
In the situation, many potters have already left their ancestral profession, as they have failed to survive with their poor-income, sources added.
Although about 20,000 potters in different parts of the district ran their ancestral trade only a decade ago, the number has now come down drastically.
While talking to this correspondent, some potters of Shimrail, Kandi, Kumarpara, Shahbajpur Kumarpara, Sarail, Nasirnagar, Budhunti Kumarpara, Jhalshuka Kumarpara, Kuti Kumarpara and Akhaura Kumarpara in the district grimly narrated their woes.
In the circumstances, the potters of the district have urged the government to take immediate step for survival of their age-old profession, sources said.
