Cattle abundant in Khulna markets

Our Correspondent KHULNA, Nov 3: Sale of sacrificial animals in the city's makeshift market is gathering momentum with thousands of cattle arriving on the eve of Eid ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims. Although cattle prices were comparatively lower than those in the past years, traders hoped that they would be able to recover the loss caused by an onrush of Indian cattle. Shamsul Islam, a trader at Joraget market said the sale of animals is picking up with Eid coming nearer. 'It will get a further boost the following days as city dwellers, face problems in keeping the animals in their yards for 3-4 days,' he added. 'The supply of cattle to the markets is adequate as hundreds of animals are coming in daily from various parts of the area,' said Abdul Mannan, another trader, and added that the prices of goats are comparatively high this time.
