Cattle sale begins at 21 city markets today

YASIR WARDAD | Wednesday, 6 July 2022

The trading of sacrificial animals begins at 19 makeshift cattle markets, leased out by two city corporations, today with the prospect of selling 1.0-million livestock this year.
Sales have already begun at two permanent markets, including Gabtoli and Sharulia of Demra.
The FE finds that Gabtoli, Polytechnic Institute and Hazaribagh markets are all set for sale as traders from northern, north-western and south-western regions will join the business within a day. Cattle traders at Gabtoli are found charging 25-30 per cent higher rate for their animals than last year's, citing growing feed prices a reason for this surge.
Temporary markets in nine areas under Dhaka North City Corporation include Kaola of Sialdanga, Uttara sector 17 open space between Brindaban and BGMEA to the north, Bhatara (Saidnagar), Badda Eastern Housing Aftabnagar Block E to H area, vacant land adjacent to Mohammadpur Basila 40-feet road, Khilkhet Uttarpara Jamal Properties, Mirpur Section-6, Kankura Beparipara Rahman Nagar Residential Project Area of Ward No 44 and playground of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute.
Dhaka South City Corporation has permitted 10 provisional markets in addition to its permanent Shaurlia haat in Demra.
