CHITTAGONG, Oct 16: The action committee to re-open Chittagong Chemical Complex under government management has blamed the government for dillydally in resuming production in the lone state-owned chemical raw material production unit.
The committee leaders have warned of road blockade on the Chittagong-Dhaka highway and other stringent programmes if the government fails to expedite steps to resume production in the mill within next one month.
The leaders of the action committee at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club today said the government decided to reopen the industry back in early 2009 and accordingly Industries Minister Dilip Barua formally inaugurated resumption of production in the industry on April 28 last year.
"The decision of the government to exclude the industry from the disposal list of the Privatisation Board of the government was hailed by all quarters including the local businesses," said president of the committee SM Nasir Ahmed.
"18 months have passed since then but the industry is yet to go into operation. Vested interest groups are acting behind this dillydally tactics although the Prime Minister is reportedly eager to run it as early as possible," he added.
