CHITTAGONG, Jan 05: The conflict between Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and Chittagong Port authority (CPA) over municipal taxes has not been settled even on expiry of long twelve years.
CCC is claiming that municipal taxes worth Tk.400 million annually are remaining unpaid by the CPA while is not ready to accept the claim of the CCC.
According to CPA sources, the municipal taxes now being paid are much higher than justified rates.
Centring the fixation of municipal taxes, both the organisations are at loggerheads for long. The CCC has claimed that Tk.2.21 billion has been lying outstanding with the CPA but the CPA does not agree to pay such a big amount of municipal taxes.
With a view to resolving the dispute, a joint committee has been formed. As the committee has not yet submitted its report the matter has been lying unresolved, sources said.
