CCC launches medical waste disposal programme

CHITTAGONG, May 19: Chittagong City Corporation has launched medical waste disposal and management programme today by commissioning a waste collection vehicle in front of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Initially one covered van will collect medical wastes from all government and private hospitals and clinics around the city while two other covered vans will shortly be added to the work, the CCC officials said. Mayor of the CCC M Monjur Alam launched the programme as chief guest while director of the CMCH Brig Gen Mostafizur Rahman attended the function as special guest. The programme was organized by Innovation Services Organization, a local NGO. The wastes will be carried in the covered vans to the CCC's Halishahar dumping ground and buried under the ground everyday by the CCC conservancy department. The launching function was also attended among others by principal of Chittagong Medical College Dr Selim Jahangir, CCC councillor Md Hossain, Golam Sayeed Mintu, CEO of CCC Monjur-e-Elahi and chairman of the Innovation Services Organization Matiur Rahman.
