CCC mayor for rehabilitation of people living in risky areas

CHITTAGONG, Sept 8: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Manjur Alam has proposed to rehabilitate five thousand families. The families, who are living in the risky areas of Chittagong, have been listed by the local administration.
He has also proposed to provide financial support in building the planned sluice gates in the cross-dam areas to eradicate people's sufferings.
The CCC mayor said the proposed projects are very important, considering public interest for reducing the impact of disasters.
He said these while additional secretary of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Golam Mostafa, deputy secretary Salma Jahan and senior assistant secretary Naima Begum, and Olin Dhalwan and Dr. Shamim M Haque of Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) met him at his office on Monday afternoon.
The mayor gave a brief description of different works, implemented by CCC over the last four years. He also sought cooperation of CDMP in executing various projects.
He said CCC has earned Tk 1.80 billion from revenue sector during his four years tenure. After meeting salary and other expenses of the CCC employees it has spent Tk 700 to 800 million on different development projects.
He further said Tk 500 million would be spent to repair the city roads and lanes that got dilapidated due to heavy rainfall during the current season.
CCC is building a residential project to rehabilitate 160 families, living in the hill pockets in the city, and those buildings are now at the final stage.
Besides, the projects now under implementation are construction of new channel RCC drain at Bahaddarhat at a cost of Tk 90.02 million, and retaining wall and canal digging project in Mohesh Khal under ward no-27 at a cost of Tk 160.65 million.
Among others, CCC panel mayor Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni, councilors Giasuddin, Sarfaraj Quader, Md Ismail and Yasin Chowdhury Ashu, chief executive officer Ali Ahmed, superintending engineer Rafiqul Islam and executive engineer Quamrul Islam were present on the occasion.
