CCC Mayor Nasir, Hazari cleared of attempt-to-murder charges

CHITTAGONG, July 22: A court in Chittagong has acquitted all 18 accused including the newly elected city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and Nizam Uddin Hazari, MP from Feni in a case of attempting to murder.Chittagong District and Sessions Judge SM Nurul Huda gave the verdict today.All the accused have been acquitted as the plaintiff could not prove the charges brought against the accused in the court, the judge said.
Sufian Siddiqui, then a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, filed the case on January 24, 2003 following an alleged attack on him during a mass rally for Sheikh Hasina, then opposition leader in parliament, at Laldighi Moidan in the city.
