CHITTAGONG, Aug 1: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) will install fresh billboards in a limited scale at the beautiful spots to enhance the splendour of the port city, CCC sources said.
The beauty of the city was undermined as most of the city streets had been covered by billboards earlier. The CCC evicted several hundred billboards from different parts of the city.
Most of the billboards were removed from Tiger Pass, Dewanhat, GEC and Bahaddarhat areas as well as from some busy and posh areas. However, some billboards were left untouched at the sites.
Sources said, the CCC has decided to install billboards afresh in a more convenient and beautiful manner. In this connection, the CCC revenue department would conduct survey immediately and determine the spots suitable for installation of billboards.
Different advertising houses used to install billboards in the busy areas of the city without prior permission of the concerned authority. Moreover, the agencies also used to evade payment of huge amounts of revenue.
According to the CCC, billboard is a source of revenue earning of the Corporation. If billboards are installed in a planned way, they would enhance the beauty of the city. The CCC has decided to invite tenders for the purpose immediately.
