CHITTAGONG, Sept 3: People of the low-income group especially service holders, workers and employees, garment workers, small traders and students in the port city have been suffering a lot due to lack of public transports over the last few days.
President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Mahbubul Alam said this in a statement Tuesday expressing deep concern over the plight of the common people.
He said CNG-run auto-rickshaws and pedalled rickshaws in the city have been claiming irrational and unbridled fares and held people of low-income and limited-income groups hostage taking advantage of such a situation.
The CCCI chief urged the authorities concerned to take steps to prevent the rickshaw and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers from charging unusual fares and relieve the people of the lawlessness of a section of transport operators.
