CCCI for special economic zone in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, Oct 20: Speakers, at a meeting on development of greater Chittagong, underscored the need for forming a coordination cell for ensuring effective development of the region.
The members of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) were sharing opinion with the concerned stakeholders relating to the uplift of greater Chittagong including establishment of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Chittagong.
The meeting was held in collaboration with Bangladesh Investment Climate Fund (BICF) at Chittagong Chamber auditorium Saturday.
The speakers deplored that development of Chittagong is being hampered for lack of coordination among the agencies concerned of the government.
CCCI President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury presided over the meeting while BICF Programme Manager Martin Norman highlighted on projects undertaken for the development of Chittagong.
CCCI president termed Chittagong as an attractive focal point of investment and stressed on the uplift of Chittagong for increasing investment. The CCCI president proposed for constructing an apex body named Chittagong Development Coordination Cell with representation of all the agencies concerned. He called for attaching topmost priority to the region-based potentials in establishing industrial zones.
Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Shah Mohammed Akteruddin proposed formation of Urban Development Coordination Cell with a concerned minister as its chief.
CCCI vice president Mahbub Alam, Chittagong WASA Chairman Md Ishaque, Southern University Vice Chancellor AJM Nooruddin Chowdhury, Chamber directors and stakeholders also spoke on the occasion.
