CCCI installlation ceremony held

CHITTAGONG, Mar 31: The installation ceremony of the newly elected board of directors of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry was held this evening at the CCCI auditorium in the city.
The meeting was presided over by CCCI president Mahbubul Alam and attended by former president MA Latif MP, senior vice president Md Nurun Newaz Selim, vice president Syed Jamal Ahmed and the outgoing and incoming directors of the CCCI.
MA Latif MP said one-third of the incumbent government's present development schemes are Chittagong-based. So the country's oldest and pioneering trade body should play its important role.
He expressed the hope that development of trade and industries of Chittagong will be expedited under the leadership of this trade body. He said Bangladesh now remains on the highway of development.
 Mahbubul Alam said the role of CCCI is crucial in turning Chittagong into commercial capital in true sense of the term, making infrastructure development and attracting local and foreign investment in the region.  
 The CCCI can boast of playing critical role in policy guidelines and implementation through its direct involvement with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Commerce Ministry, Industries Ministry, different directorates and government agencies, he said.
Full panel of the Latif-backed Mahbub-Newaz Parishad has won all the posts of directors of the CCCI. The executives of the CCCI for 2015-16 are Mahbubul Alam (president), Nurun Newaz Selim (senior vice president) Syed Jamal Ahmed (vice president), Didarul Alam MP, Mazharul Islam Chowdhury, Majharul Huq Shah, MA Motaleb, Jahirul Islam Chowhury, AKM Akhtar Hossain, Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury, Ohid Siraj Chowdhury, Mahbubul Huq Chowdhury Babar, Anwar Shawkat Afser, AmzadHossain, Zahurul Alam and Sirajul Islam were re-elected.
The newly elected directors are Anjan Shekhar Das, Arif Iftekhar, Raquibur Rahman, Zahedul Huq, Sarwar Hasan Jamil, SM Shamsuddin, Habib Mohiuddin and Habibul Huq. The outgoing directors are Morshed Murad Ibrahim, Syed Sagir Ahmed, Md Jahagir, Md Morshed, Belal Ahmed, Mahfuzur Rahman, MA Salam and Morshed Arif Chowdhury.
 Organising Secretary of Khatungonj Trade and Industries Ltd Jamal Hossain said the businessmen deposit money with the banks for safety. But incident will definitely create mistrust and image crisis in the business, especially in the major consumer wholesale market.
"The traders and importers in Khatungonj, Chaktai, Asadgonj and Terribazar areas are concerned at the incident. They have demanded investigation and get their money back," he said.
