CHITTAGONG, June 06: With a view to ensuring uninterrupted supply of the essential consumer goods and keeping the supply chain normal, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) made an 8-point recommendation for consideration of the caretaker government.
CCCI president Saifuzzaman Chowdhury placed the recommendations in an opinion-sharing meeting with the members of the business community and media persons. The meeting was arranged by the CCCI at its auditorium yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, the CCCI president said, due to short supply of the goods in the markets, increase in the rate of dollar, rise in production cost in agricultural and industrial sectors, price hike of fuel oil in the country and other reasons prices of the consumer goods have increased supply.
In a bid to arrest such an upward trend in the price level on the eve of the month of holy Ramadan, the CCCI president called for reducing different taxes imposed on the consumer goods, allowing duty-free import of the same and introducing import of commodities from the countries which had earlier suspended their export to this country, through holding discussion at the government level.
CCCI Senior Vice president M A Latif called upon the government to bring back the money which had been trafficked abroad by different corrupt persons and to help resist the unhealthy trend of price spiral providing necessary subsidies through the said money.
The 8-point recommendation was sent to the Chief Adviser, the Finance Adviser and the army chief of the country with an appeal to take necessary actions in this connection.
