CHITTAGONG, June 9: The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has submitted a 152-point recommendation to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) with a proposal to provide a special package to the exporters in the context of global recession, preserving the interest of the local industries and fixing the ceiling of tax-free income of individual categorised tax payers at Tk 250,000.
The CCCI has placed these recommendations for inclusion in the 2009-2010 fiscal budget.
It was stated in the recommendations that the negative effects of the recent economic downtrend across the world have started hitting export and import sector of the country. As a result, orders for the main exports that include ready made garments, frozen foods, leather and leather products and tea have declined drastically.
Under these circumstances, the CCCI has proposed providing special allocation or assistance package for exporters in the upcoming budget for sustaining the industrialisation and export growth of the country and also continue the creation of jobs.
The CCCI pre-budget proposals also include formation of a full-fledged Bond Commissionerate, establishing an Appellate Tribunal office, Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredient (API) Park and common laboratory for quality control of medicine of all companies in Chittagong.
