CHITTAGONG, Nov 26: The authority of Chittagong Customs House (CCH) detained two diesel-driven fork lifts from Chittagong Port (CP) which were imported falsely showing battery-driven ones, CCH sources said.
The owner of the inland container depot 'Ocean Container Limited (OCL)' on false declaration evaded duties amounting to around Tk 0.5 million at the time of clearance of the imported equipment.
According to the CCH sources, OCL imported two diesel-driven fork lifts, but planned to pay tax as per false declaration of importing battery-driven ones.
The concerned importer cleared those fork lifts in June last year. But one and a half years later, the CCH authority on secret information swooped on Ocean Container Depot at Katgar area in the port city and seized the two diesel-driven fork lifts.
However, the concerned importer is reported to have applied to the customs authority for holding summary trial in this connection.
